Short Summary: Dealing with a conveyance made "free of all encumberances" in the form of land with a mortage of slaves used in security in which the vendor recovered judgements after which the purchaser paid the amount due. When the vendor dies without ever having executed a deed to the purchaser, the vendor's widow claimed dower of the land after first judgement in bond was to be given to the convention. Remanding the case to the lower court in order to determine if the purchaser had knowledge that the vendee had a wife since a purchaser cannot be held answerable for laches in not providing against consequences of facts of matters for which he was ignorant.
